Mamadou Diabate: carrys on griot story telling tradition in music
Mamadou Diabate (Burkina Faso / West Africa) comes from a griot family in which the music and storytelling is carried on for many generations as a family profession.
From his 5th Age he was introduced by his father and other teachers in the elaborate game on balafon. The balafon can be seen as an African relative of the xylophone and is traditionally played by up to three players simultaneously.
Against the wishes of his parents as a teenager, he decided to expand his musical horizons with the now world-famous modern, or rather neo-traditional artists like Farafina, Sababugnoma, Freres Coulibaly. The reconciliation took place with them until many years later when his father for the national cultural festival of Burkina Faso sought a second Balafonisten and no better place than Mamadou. In the following years, they won again the first prize.
Since 2000, Mamadou Diabate lives in Austria and gives numerous concerts worldwide. Various musicians like Sigi Finkel, Hubert von Goisern, Dobrek Bistro, Karl Ritter and Others invited Mamadou Diabaté their CD productions participate.
